Spoke to the people from Dometic about this model, at the show in Brisbane over the weekend. It does sound impressive!!
They assure me that it will work on reverse cycle in temps far below the previous models. It has a "de-icing" system and will continue to run, although with less efficiency, right down to around -5c before shutting down.
There was a unit on display, running and it looked good and didnt seem too noisy.
They also assured me that the Honda 2kw genset will run it under normal circumstances. The Generator Place backed this statement up.
Misinformation Oct 2010 A caravan salesman told me if 240v power is unavailable the B 3000 will run off the 12v caravan batteries as it has dual power 12v 240v? Correction by Cyclone He's telling porkies. B3000 will not run off the van batteries. The 12V LED's will run off the battery, as long as the 12V is run to the
main circuit board. Normally they are run through the stepdown transformer on the main board.
Review from Pajcompass Oct 2010 I have heard varying reports on the "new" Dometic air conditioner. They apparently work fine however the question I asked "will it run if the outside temperature is below 4 degrees C ?" I have a brother with the earlier model one, about 2 years old, that won't. I get Yes and no to my question. The Air Commander Ibis apparently will and is the equivalent with respect to noise and performance to the Dometic. We are trying to decide which one to put in our new van.
Feedback from Minnette april 2010 Excellent unit. Very quiet but then ours has only been in use for 3 weeks - as you know! The unit heats the van very well and although we have not yet had to operate the cooling for any length of time, we did try it for a half hour and it was brilliant. Even on highest fan speed it was far quieter than our aircon in our old van. You will not be disappointed.
