Melamine Resin, or also known as Melamine Formaldehyde is the product used to make these plastic dinner sets. They have been listed by the EU as safe to use if not heated. Melamine MUST NOT be used in microwave ovens due to the plastic absorbing radiation and releasing Formaldehyde into the food being heated. Formaldehyde has been listed in many 1st world countries such as Canada and the United States (June 2011) as ''Known to be a human carcinogen'' (Australia will also undoubtedly list it in years to come).
